Wills and Powers of
Attorney
Why make a Will?
When someone dies without having made a Will their assets are
distributed in accordance with the “Laws of Intestacy”. These rules may
not reflect their true wishes and can in extreme circumstances result in
injustice, particularly in the case of second marriages.
By making a Will you can benefit exactly those people you wish to
benefit and you can also take the opportunity to minimise taxes due on
your death.
Making a Will need not be an expensive exercise and we have devised a
simple fixed price service for clients who have straightforward
instructions but which still offers a great deal of scope for
individuality.
Why Make a Power of Attorney?
A Power of Attorney enables you to appoint someone to look after your property
and affairs. If you don’t want your attorney to have such wide powers, you
can include any restrictions you like, such as a restriction as to what your
attorney may do. You can appoint up to four attorneys, and you can chose
whether they should act independently or unanimously.
An Enduring Power of Attorney enables someone to look after your property and
affairs even though you become incapable of looking after them yourself.
Ideally, as your Attorney will have conduct of your personal finances and
affairs, your Attorney should be a family member or a suitably qualified
professional.
How much will it cost?
Our charge for preparing a single Will is £88.13 including VAT. For two
“mirror” Wills the price is £117.50 including VAT.
We can also provide a fuller service to include an Enduring power of
Attorney. Our charge in this case would be £129.25 for a single and
£152.75 for two.
We can store your Will free of charge and will provide you with a copy.
For those not able to attend the office we will be only too pleased to
arrange a home visit but there will be an extra charge depending upon
the distance.
